Curriculum

“Pupils are extremely keen to learn and delight in the wide range of exciting activities provided”, Ofsted 2013.

We are very proud of our curriculum. It fosters a love of learning, enthusiasm and great skills. Our key drivers are Enterprise, Environment, Spirituality and Morals which underpin our curriculum and are evident throughout each subject and activity. We foster a love of reading among our children with a wide and exciting range of genres. The children read individually to class teachers and teaching assistants, and have daily group reading sessions. Our Phonics programme is called ‘Letters and Sounds’ and is taught daily. We love to write – stories, poems, lists, recipes, biographies and more. We provide wonderful opportunities to inspire the children’s creative writing. We are also very proud of our handwriting and the children work hard to keep it neat and of a high standard.

In numeracy and science our focus is ensuring the children have the key skills such as problem solving and investigation, as well as a strong knowledge base from which to apply their skills. We also teach our children to develop learning skills (click to link) such as teamwork, and to work independently and creatively.

All the other primary subjects are important features of our curriculum through which we help the children develop their skills and knowledge.

As a Christian school we pride ourselves on our Christian values and RE teaching and have close links with our local church, All Saints, Ockham.

Our prospectus and curriculum map give a wonderful flavour of our curriculum journey from Rabbits Class to Badgers.
